I'm so fucking sick of people who don't have balls enough to do the right thing. I've made plenty of mistakes in my life, but I took fucking responsibility for all of them. These spineless pieces of shit in Washington will let the country go down the shitter before they ever do anything.
Perhaps it's analogous to the elites within Germany who were aware of the potential damage Hitler could bring forth but saw it as the price to pay for the benefit they could get. Sure we lose our democracy but have you looked at the price of bitcoin lately?
In his post today, "President Trump: A Structural Take" Michael A. Alexander (@mikebert) writes:
"A possible path to a secular cycle crisis resolution is ending democratic rule[...] An example of such an expansion might be to use ICE intimidation to depress the vote in Democratic districts, as voters fearing harassment from ICE choose to stay home on election day. Such intimidation could lead to Republican victories that otherwise would not happen. This could produce one party rule, establishing a new Trump dispensation that replaces the Reagan dispensation. Of course, once coercive power is used to make elections irrelevant, the Skowronek model is no longer relevant."
My question is for whom did the 1st Trump presidency provide a structural advantage such that they wanted him in office again at ALL costs... from having a police state (for some), a national embarrassment for a president, to even the destruction of democracy?
I managed my 30-year distain for Trump to watch & listen to the AP coverage of his entire address at Davos from the sycophantic introduction through the 'what the fuck is he saying?!?!' address, and the closing Q & 'who knows what the fuck the As were!?!?'
So again I ask, who is gaining a structual advantage from this destabilizing absurdity? They must be comfortable and confident that Congress will do nothing in the face of this treason.
Sadly, Congress consists of a bunch of toadies and feckless cowards. None of them will do anything that counts. No one is going to stick their neck out, particularly not the Republicans (bar Massie, who will probably lose his seat in retaliation).
The only thing that will motivate any change is when the Republican politicians themselves start facing personal consequences -- Republicans being arrested for being brown, Trump targeting their pet projects, or attacking allies and interests that make them money. When they start losing.
Only then will they do something, recognizing that self-preservation is better than sitting around waiting for someone else to save them.
By then though, the country will be lost.
Why didn't I mention Democrats? Well, the Democrats are so useless and unaware, preferring to feign outrage than act, that they'll never get a majority again. Between their utter cowardice and Republican vote-rigging, nothing will change until the idiot demented toddler occupying the White House is removed by the one force he can't bribe, threaten, or conquer through bullying.
The lemmings have-not surprisingly-all rushed over the cliff.
That’s what lemmings do, nicht wahr?
Thanks for clarifying how this 25th amendment thing works. Hardly surprising to learn that the checks& balances are dealt with in terms of accountability buried in the current bullshit as believable as me telling my second grade home room teacher that the cat had eaten my homework when, truth be told, I found addition problems boring & just didn’t want to do it.
I recognize this work ethic: ‘I don’t want to. I won’t. You can’t make me. Fuck you.’
Unless, when the happy day comes that our dear leader goes to what I hope is hell forever, they give him a nowhere and everywhere ocean send off like certain other naughty boys have gotten, I think those words should be on his tombstone which should actually be a working urinal.
Maybe a same sex public potty mausoleum?
It’ll save people a lot of trouble….
Never thought I’d live to see such an obviously inept cult like this ‘in charge’-voted in not once, but twice and aided by a ‘resistance’ that does nothing and assured round two of this oncoming Gotterdammerung festspiel by a gaslighting grift attempt that was as obviously doomed to failure as Trump is obviously a psychopathic malignant and incontinent narcissist.
I read somewhere that after WWII was ‘won’, (but the verb ‘win’ had come to be as problematic in this day and age as ‘sex’-in the context of those ‘relations’ not ‘had’ was in the Clinton years) the USA held the world upside down and shook all the money out of its’ pockets.
Bottom line, even if meals are only $3, as the Marie Antoinette wannabe cabinet secretary would like to suggest, seems like it’s last call Bd the bar tab has come due.
What if everyone in government and the media, the greedy fuckwad class and everyone's staff, too, and the state level of same--what if they see fascism taking over America as INEVITABLE, and so if they stick their necks out to oppose it now, their heads will be chopped off, metaphorically speaking? They're playing along to go along and not become victims themselves, right? Or their "loved ones"? How many are going along because they can't face being exposed for whatever kompromat there is on them? The sacrifice of others--POC, LGBTQ+, non Christians, females--is acceptable if they get to keep their money, status, and power, and their families and friends untouched? It sounds horrifying and depraved, but if they lose little or nothing, it will all have been worth it, and they'll gladly uphold the lies that say we are still a powerful democracy? I don't want to believe this about our politicians, corporate leaders, judges, law enforcement, the list goes on, but what else am I to conclude, based on their words, deeds, or lack thereof?
Exceptional point about the differnce between alarm and action. Congress hiding behind the 25th Amendment is basically admitting they're unwilling to own their constitutional role. I've watched this pattern play out across different crises where institutions had the tools but lacked the spine to use them when it mattered. The seriousness test framing really captures howgovernance collapses when consequences matter more than outcomes.
In fact, impeachment is easier. The ultimate decision under the 25th Amendment is approval by Congress by 2/3 of the vote of each==BOTH houses of Congress, not just one.
And yet we are contributing by accepting the ideals of capitalism. The idea that it's just okay to acquire vast sums of money as a right while accepting the idea that it corrupts the very society that celebrates it's existence. Billionairs are thieves. No one needs that kind of money. As long as you justify it, you will not live in a equitable or just society. The generation of money is a community effort, the monies generated belongs to the community. Everyone deserves to benefit from the creation of capital. Billionairs do not earn a billion dollars, that is not possible.
Shorter version: Congress doesn't act, trump remains — same as it ever was.
I'm not putting a penny on Congress doing anything!

If you want to make that comparison... you'd be better off looking at the unseriousness of the Weimar. Once the NSDAP was in? The jig was up.

One would say Russia - but this could be wrong
I wouldn't say it is wrong, just not complete and I suspect that they are people who really have no loyalty to any state.
Exactly. America isn't this way because of DJT. DJT is the way he is and where he is because that's what Americans want. No? Prove it.
Add the "Band of Bozos" that constitute our Cabinet, too.

This is also known as “bat shit crazy.”
Damn my reps Graham, Scott and Mace.
Damn this web of malicious clowns.
And I call again…may we have a Borderless Living zoom call sooner rather than later.

"At least they were worried" Thank you.
There so much bullshit going on I appreciate your clarity.
The 25th isn’t a spell. It’s a cabinet lever.
If the VP and Cabinet won’t move, Congress can’t “invoke” anything.
Impeachment isn’t a hope either. It’s recorded votes and Senate math.
So the seriousness test is simple:
Will the people with formal authority accept formal consequences—
or will they keep outsourcing responsibility to process more political theater?
There is zero shortage of theater these days.
