Brilliant. Im a former federal grants officer at an R1 institution. I lost my job, as did my whole office, because of the massive and criminal action in 2025 by the Trump administration. We may well find that our research-heavy institutions (R1) will lose capacity and capability to provide foundational research that would be activated for ANY population-based crisis.
I've been wondering about how the next pandemic would shake out with morons running the show. You've laid it out very clearly and it's every bit as bad as I imagined. The only bright spot is that trumpkins will die at a much higher rate just like they did during Covid.

About Warp Speed specifically, I always felt that to Trump is was largely a PR operation where someone walked into the Oval and stuck a piece of paper in front of him, saying "Sign this, sir, and you'll be a hero. We will throw some money at vaccine makers to prepay for vaccine doses. You can claim YOU created the vaccine and YOU beat the virus!"
Unfortunately, the US media allowed Trump to make this claim unchallenged, so many millions of Americans think that capability still exists because it resides in Trump's stable genius brain. The truth, of course, is quite the opposite.
And if we want to point at one person to thank for how bad it's gotten, I can name him: Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, who could have blocked RFK Jr in committee, but passed on that opportunity in order to prevent a primary challenge this year. This is the level of depravity that has infected the entire Republican Party.
Why would a government deliberately weaken its own institutions? Especially a government whose president is known for his violent dislike of criticism and accusations of incompetence? What is the overall objective?
You did this to yourselves: Homogenous reaction to C-19, when it was known from the beginning that the aged and those with comorbidities were the ones at risk. Mask mandates that were known not to work. “Social distancing” that was also made up. Lies about testing, safety & effectiveness. And then vaccine mandates that cost people their livelihoods, all in the name of “the greater good”, not the principles on which this country was founded. And throughout it all, not a hint of scientific curiosity or tolerance of questioning, simply silencing. I spent 26 years in the federal government, I was a true believer. Never again will I believe health officials. You did this to yourselves, and to us.
The tragedy is that, collectively, we voted for this! The situation does not change when you or I or anyone notes having voted more wisely. The situation is not broken from the point of view of the administration or the voters. It is working as it was meant to, despite that the outcome will not be the improved health and greater freedoms that the voters demanded.
I read someone say once that humans only know two speeds….grazing and panic. It is only a matter of time before a health crisis punches the panic button and, in the everyone for themselves world we live in, it will be uglier than anything we have seen in a long time. I sadly suspect lots of the “surplus” population will be sacrificed willingly.
