I am an 82 year old white South African and have never experienced any violence or discrimination. This assertion of 'persecution' by these so called refugees is utter nonsense. They are racists plain and simple and are being used by Trump as political fodder. The USA will use them and spit them out in no time. They will learn that they are political pawns and have landed in a harsh uncaring country. I lived and worked in the USA so this is from direct experience, not hearsay.
This is an important point which will be discussed for years if free thought is not totally eliminated by the Ministry of Truth. How we came to this point is critical, and may have important implications. However, on an operational level, I wonder if the institutionalization of this policy by the current regime should not be one arm of the impeachment actions against this administration (for it is clearly opposed to the basis and letter of the constitution, and beyond the allotted power of the executive). The second category of impeachable offenses is the bucket full of actions the regime has done to harm the people of this country directly (anti free market, tariffs, stopping renewable energy, etc.), or indirectly, such as destruction of our soft power via ending USAID programs, and supporting enemies of democracy not our allies (Ukraine) etc.
Hopefully, the issues will be adjudicated in the public after the midterms. If not, the discussion will clearly be about how the American Experiment was murdered in our times after so much of its promise had spread throughout the world. It is doubtful the current representatives who claim allegiance to party over constitutional underpinnings will vote for the American Ideals, but an open airing of the issues may allow some education of the voting public, and maybe an awakening of the monied class to the fact that social and climate catastrophe are not good for their memory or progeny.
Favoring the Afrikaners is like saying that the J6 insurrectionists have been abused because you know there is discrimination against white people - in South Africa and in the US. This is nuts. And a projection because teh Trumpers might get treated like the Afrikaners when the reckoning comes. Meanwhile, we should have seen his initial comments about Afrikaners as part of the Project 2025 playbook, just like changing the Department of Defense to War. That move foreshadowed phase two of the plan when we moved from deterrence to war in the first days of the new year. How’s that working out for us? This traitors are implementing the plan to bring us back to pre-1932.
Thank you for pointing this out in such starkly clear-eyed language. You and Christopher Armitage seem to be on the same page regarding the true state of our “Union”.
The problem with our country today is that our billionaires, the Epstein elite, don't know what to do with their money.
There are no possessions they can't buy, so acquisition of power, the ability to control people is about the only thing left for them to get. For a long time they've taken their excess and invested it into other money-making acquisitions. They have no incentives to spend their wealth making the lives of fellow Americans better. Gaining power and getting more money are the only things they have left to get.
Sooooo, things are the way they are and our future looks like things will only get more so. What we, the people who don't like the way things are today, need to do is to create incentives for billionaires to do better.
If we get a blue wave and if we get the opportunity to create significant change, then we should take it. One solution might be for us to completely change our tax code. Set the highest rate at 95%. OK, that's not a new idea, but what we might do differently is allow high earners a way to not pay that tax on all of their money by giving them an opportunity to spend some of their money making things better for Americans.
It would work like this: any money they spend on America will be matched by a multiple of that money that is exempt from income tax. So if the multiple is 1.5, then if they spend $100M on good things, then they will have $150M that will not be taxed.
Good things could be stuff like increasing wages for the people they employ. Say that the increased wages cost them X, then they would have 1.5 times X that they don't pay taxes on. They could buy health care for their employees, or build hospitals and schools and bridges and roads.
The multiplier would need to be determined by economists, and there would need to be restrictions and limits, but the basic idea is that we could make things better by having the people who own most of our economy allocate resources to make Americans' lives better, while at the same time increasing their wealth (which is something we know they like to do).
We would need to pass and enforce strong bribery and corruption laws to make this work. ( I think we need to do that anyway.) Anyone caught gaming the system would get the ability to participate revoked. They would just have to pay the 95% tax rate.
Breaking the social pact between parts of the same nation will lead to a situation like the Balkans.
Yes, of course, someone will say "we remain united because we are all children of George Washington" , but someone else will surely scream loud that Washington was white, so only white people should rule.
he most dangerous difference between the United States and Yugoslavia is that you have a nuclear arsenal

I was thinking the same. Constitutional architecture allows for state sovereignty. The state of the union depends on the states of our union.

Are the Black Panthers - assuming there are any left - gonna get any of that sweet, sweet cash?
As those of us in southern Africa, white and Black, say about the boertrekkers fleeing to djt's America: buhbye!
Look forward to their whinging reports about how 'hard' it is to make it in the US. They have no idea how much status they just lost.
